Knitting to Soothe a Troubled Soul

I've been *a bit* on edge lately (my husband would scoff at the "a bit" part), so any knitting I've done has been rather simple, not requiring a whole lot of attention.  Fine... it was mindless knitting.  I started and completed this dishcloth this week:

Wish I could take credit for creating the stripes, but the yarn did that all by itself; still, I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.  I'll add it to my stash of last-minute gifts.

In keeping with the theme of simple knitting, and in order to once again do something good for someone who isn't as fortunate as I am, I also began knitting a cap tonight for this:

Unfortunately, however, I dropped a stitch somewhere along the way and could not manage to repair it.  So, I ended up frogging all of my progress and will be starting all over again probably as soon as I finish this post.  Thank goodness, I can start and finish this pattern in a couple of hours, and as long as I get my cap postmarked by Wednesday, I can be assured that it will make it to Afghanistan or to another one of the CURE hospitals.

I'd also like to encourage any knitters who might stumble across this post to join in and knit up a hat for the women and children of Afghanistan too.  It's definitely a great cause, and there's still time (till February 15th)!  I think this is a much better Valentine than chocolate or roses...
