Difficult Yet Satisfying

These first few days back to work after a mostly relaxing two-week break have been tough!  Add to my trying to get back into the school groove the fact that my husband started a new schedule at his job in which he now works twelve-hour days, thus leaving the house at 5:30 A.M. either two or three days a week... the routine which we spent years perfecting has been thrown into a tailspin.  What's more, I myself worked a twelve-hour day Tuesday, AND it has been gloomy and raining all but one day this week, causing me to want to do nothing other than sleep.  This and more has made it a difficult four days, and I'm not counting on tomorrow's being any easier (although it IS Friday; that will help somewhat).  I did, however, have a satisfying moment at work today which I just have to share...

I have my sophomore classes studying poetry right now, and we've spent some time each day discussing the importance of sound elements and rhythm and how these contribute to the meaning of a poem.  So, for further practice today, we took a couple of well-known pop songs and analyzed their rhyme scheme and meter.  One of the songs I chose was "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen.  My fifth-period class had fun with the assignment, but complained that they would have that ear worm the rest of the day.  Imagine my surprise (and evil delight) when on my way back from lunch I heard several students, who were not members of my fifth period, singing or humming "Call Me Maybe" as they walked down the hall.  Furthermore, before the day was over, the song continued to spread throughout the school.

I feel all nefarious in a totally harmless kind of way!  Mwaaaaaaaaaaa-haa-haa-haaaaaaaa!

  1. Now I have the earworm. (But, I still like that goofy song, anyway!) Did you have lots of trouble staying awake all day this week? I seemed to have gotten a little too used to the extra sleep, and am really struggling by about 10am!

  2. I find myself feeling dopey around 3 o'clock. And can't shake the sleepies, so I am not doing anything in the evening. That has to stop, I have tons of stuff to do!

  3. Saintseester - It IS a goofy song, isn't it? But it's so catchy that one can't help but bop along with it. And yes, I have been SO sleepy. I nearly declared nap time in each of my classes Tuesday, but I figured that might be frowned upon.

Kwizgiver - My husband's grandmother firmly believes that 3 o'clock is the hour when everyone gets a "sinkin' spell." She also routinely declares that snack time as a result.
