My weekend, and the last two days before back to work in the new year, was not as crafty as I'd hoped it would be. Mainly, that's because my husband's clingy family ruined my Saturday. I was hoping to get in some knitting time, but more than that, I wanted to practice my newest hobby -- using the sewing machine I got for Christmas. However, my in-laws planned a birthday "party" for my husband and his cousin (his birthday is Tuesday; hers was New Year's Day) last night, and I was asked to bake a cake for it and to show up early to help my mother-in-law and granny-in-law attempt to decipher instructions for some embroidery that she wants to do (not that I've ever done that), so all of that took up half my day. I decided not even to sit down with my sewing, only to have to stop in the middle of it, so I spent the rest of my Saturday writing a syllabus and planning assignments for the English Composition II class I start teaching tomorrow. And I will readily admit that I was rather pouty about not spending the day as I wanted. Today, however, was much better, other than the fact that Mother Nature has been less than kind to me. I slept late; woke up slowly with a cup of coffee and social media; cooked a couple of dishes for this week's lunches; and sewed!!! Yay! I didn't even pout about having to do laundry, getting clothes together for work and school, and packing lunches because I was finally able to do the one thing I desired this weekend. And, check out the results:

The first thing I made was a cover for my sewing machine in my two favorite colors!
Then I made a custom pillowcase for my daughter with fabrics she hand-picked!
Neither project turned out perfectly, but they're cute and functional, and not too bad for someone who has never sewn a stitch in her life before now (I think)! I might even be able to do a little bit of knitting before I have to go to bed tonight... If so, it will have been a very successful weekend, after all!
I spent the day knitting and listening to Crime & Punishment. I promised my APUSH class I would read along with them as they read it. But I know what you mean about having time to do what you love! Good luck with sewing!!
